In February 2025, an inspiring meeting took place between the project team of Matej Bel University and the headmistress and teachers of Moskovská Primary School 2 in Banská Bystrica, opening up new opportunities for collaboration in the field of mining cultural heritage, education, and knowledge exchange.
Primary school Moskovská has long positioned itself as a school with a strong interest in regional history, particularly in the mining traditions and historical legacy of central Slovakia. The school actively and creatively integrates these themes into the learning process – through interactive lessons, excursions, and school-led projects. In doing so, it contributes to preserving cultural heritage, strengthening regional identity, and educating a new generation with pride and respect for the past of their region.
The aim of the meeting was to establish collaboration and align joint activities within two projects currently being implemented by UMB in this field: the Horizon Europe project SECreTour and the EU NextGenerationEU project Mining Treasures (Banícke poklady).
As part of the planned cooperation, the school could serve as an active partner in designing and testing new educational activities, including experiential learning in the field and interactive workshops, which will later be offered to other schools in the Banská Bystrica region.
We believe this partnership will bring new inspiration and meaningful experiences into teaching – helping pupils discover the value of the Banská Bystrica region’s heritage, connect history with the present, and strengthen their relationship to the place they live in.
