Bažant Cinematograf – world cinema experiences under the open sky
Bažant Cinematograf is an original nomadic type of "open-air cinema" that covers the whole of Slovakia. Since its first season in 2003, it has gradually established itself as the largest open-air film festival in Slovakia. During the holiday months, he stops in over thirty different places and his shows are traditionally visited by around 50,000 spectators. The individual stops last four to five days, the programme consists of a collection of 5 full-length Slovak and Czech films and often selected short prequels depending on the dramaturgy of the individual years. Two stylish retro-buses of the Škoda RTO type, which are adapted for professional cinema projection, ensure the projection of films. From the bus, it is projected onto a mobile cinema screen that extends approximately twenty metres in front of the bus. The audience sits outside between the bus and the screen. Based on the technical layout of individual locations, a screening can be seen by up to 1,300 viewers.
During its history (2003-2022), almost 900,000 viewers in 60 different cities saw Bažant Cinematograf's screenings in Slovakia. It screened more than 100 feature length and almost 60 short films by Slovak and Czech filmmakers, as well as selected foreign titles as part of screenings in Bratislava.
