Alone or as a couple, with friends or family, the Night of Museums and Galleries can give you adventures in time, space, and imagination to understand in more detail some of the secrets hidden in our museums, galleries and other cultural institutions involved in this event.
The event aims to present the cultural heritage as much as possible, the importance of its preservation and protection during cultural exchange, dissemination of information about the cultural diversity of individual countries and regions of Europe, during informal education, and cultured relaxation. Museum activities during the Night of Museums and Galleries are geared towards activities that remain hidden from the public throughout the year. At that time, museums opened their "hidden" rooms to the public and revealed secrets hidden from public view. Guided tours, entertaining educational tours, workshops, screenings, live performances, and exceptional events will provide the visitor with an unconventional museum experience. This experience gives the opportunity, regardless of which place the visitor chooses, to immerse himself in the unique universe of a museum, gallery, or other cultural institution, often full of surprises and sometimes even magic. At dusk, the visitor can immerse himself in the unusual atmosphere of the museum, walk through the corridors, galleries, and admire the works in a unique and original atmosphere. In this way, the public can penetrate the secrets of the "museum kitchen". "Uncovering secrets" helps the public to better understand the importance of museums in the protection of part of the cultural and natural heritage, preserved in museums and galleries, through the knowledge and information obtained in this way.
The museum is an institution that helps to navigate the contemporary world in search of who we are, where we come from and where we are going. The decision on International Museum Day was adopted by the general conference of the International Council of Museums ICOM in Moscow in 1977. The resolution to establish May 18 as International Museum Day was supported by 108 national committees. Eleven years ago, the French initiative to establish the Nuit européenne des musées tradition also aimed to support the importance of MDM. The European Night of Museums is realised under the patronage of the Council of Europe.
