The largest and best-preserved mine dump in Špania Dolina. Its surface is an anthropogenic landscape neoformation with a stabilized specific ecosystem. From the heap there is a great panoramic view of the village and the wider surroundings.
It was created by depositing tailings excavated from the Maximilián shaft on a steep slope above the settlement. Only a few hardy species of trees grow on the heap, for example warty birch and Scots pine. Extreme soil conditions (chemical content, skeletal structure) cause the trees to have a low height and irregular crowns. There is a lookout point on the Maximilián hill, from where there is a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and the entire village of Špania Dolina. At the lookout there is a panoramic information board of the nature trail with basic information about the pile.
