In the past, the Albert shaft was one of the auxiliary shafts for mining the nearby Štefan vein. For the purpose of excavating the shaft, a horseshoe was originally built. Later, for the purpose of pumping mine water, a water wheel was in operation, driven by water from the nearby Štefan shaft, situated at a higher level.
The Albert shaft had three horizons blocked, while the lowest connected to the Hereditary adit of Emperor František, which diverted mine waters to the Hodrušská valley. After the connection of the Štefultov mining area with the Hereditary adit of Emperor František, the shaft lost its pumping function and was mainly used to train the miners and transport the material needed for the operation of the mine. Spatially, the Albert shaft belonged to the Friedenfeld mine field. The termination of operation of this shaft, like others in the Štefultovo area, occurred in the second half of the 19th century. A stupa stood near the shaft (now a ground-floor building on the north side), in which ore from the Štefan vein was crushed.
