Activity information

The mouth of the heritage drainage adit Glanzenberg is located next to the memorial to those who died in World War II on Kammerhofská Street. The oldest written mention dates back to 1560. The adit played an important role in the beginnings of gold and silver ore mining on the Špitaler vein below the Glanzenberg hill. Later, when its drainage function was taken over by drainage adits located below, it was used for transportation, ventilation, and maintenance of technicians.

500 m at a depth of 32 m is open to the public. The accessible part ends at the Kaufhaus shaft, where the so-called the imperial stairs, which are carved into the stone and connect it with the Upper Holy Trinity Adit carved below. In 1751, František Štefan Lotrinský – husband of Mária Terézia – visited the Glanzenberg adit. A memorial plaque was built in his honour. In this space, other commemorative plaques were gradually added during the visits of important monarchs. The last of them was Emperor Farntišek Jozef I.

Historical exceptionality, but especially the fact that the adit is at a shallow depth under the construction of the city centre, has always been maintained in good technical condition. After the last reconstruction in 2001, the tradition of visits by important social figures to these premises was renewed. In 2003, it was also made available to the public.
