Activity information

In the past, the Banská Bystrica Kammerhof was the largest and one of the most representative houses in the entire city.

In 1913, a building serving the needs of the Forestry Directorate was built on the site of the Kammerhof building (the seat of the Chamber of Mines). During the construction of this three-storey house with a wide street front and art nouveau facades, they completely destroyed the older building of the Kammerhof, which was the largest house on the square in the 16th century and was built on the site of an even older house owned in the 14th century by the Caroli family, later by the Jung family and Ján Ernst, from whom Matej Korvín took it away in 1473 and gave it to his lover Barbora Edelpack, the mother of his son Ján Korvín. The Fugers rented the house in 1523, and in 1566 the house passed into the ownership of the erar. Since then, the building has served as accommodation for officials of the mining administration and as a mining office.

In the period 1450-1871, one of the three breweries in Banská Bystrica was also located in the building. It served mainly to the employees of the Thurzovsko-Fugger company. Beer was not exported anywhere; it was drunk only in this house.

The Kammerhof was fortified on the south side by a stone wall connected to the city walls and had a bastion that was destroyed in 1737. According to the inventory of 1526, the house had seven rooms. In 1646, a Roman Catholic chapel was established in Kammerhof.
