One of the dominant features of the historical Square of the Slovak National Uprising in Banská Bystrica is a charming stone fountain, whose origins date back to the 16th century.
Its present form was created through gradual development over time. In the Middle Ages, a watering hole for people and animals stood in its place. In the first third of the 17th century, the city commissioned master stonemason Tomáš Wolf to build a pond, in the middle of which a brass statue was placed. At the end of the 19th century, they surrounded the lake with a circular stone wall, with a water cannon in the middle. At the beginning of the 20th century, four hills of stones were first added around the perimeter, later - by piling up the stones with overgrown moss, the well-known mound with jets was created. With its presence, it makes everyday life on the square more pleasant for both locals and guests with the sound of falling water.
