The Burgher House at Štefánik Square No. 14/2, also known as the Bell House, is an important part of the historic built environment of Kremnica’s main square. The building is located in the centre of the town’s conservation area — a space that since the Middle Ages has formed the social, economic and cultural core of one of the most significant mining towns in Central Slovakia.
The Bell House is a valuable example of traditional burgher architecture, which developed in the context of mining prosperity, minting and urban life. In terms of its massing, proportions and façade articulation, the building follows the historic block development of the square, which evolved over centuries and reflects various stages of the town’s architectural and urban development.
Such houses served as residences for local burghers, craftsmen, merchants and officials, and often combined residential functions with economic or commercial activities — thereby becoming a natural part of the dynamic environment of a mining centre.
