The Burgher House at Štefánik Square No. 32/38 is a valuable part of the historic built environment of Kremnica’s main square and forms an integral component of the town’s conservation area. It is located in a space that for centuries served as the centre of the economic, social and administrative life of an important mining town.
The building represents a traditional type of burgher residential house, whose architectural form developed over several construction periods. Its appearance reflects elements of Late Gothic, Renaissance and later modifications, typical of burgher architecture in mining towns. The articulation of the façade, the rhythm of window openings and the overall mass of the building fit harmoniously into the historic character of the square’s block development.
In the past, the house served as a residence for burgher families, merchants, craftsmen and officials whose lives were closely connected with mining, minting and trade. Such houses often combined residential functions with economic or commercial activities on the ground floor, thereby contributing to a vibrant urban environment.
